The aim of the foundation is to conduct medical outreach programs in the Philippines for the detection and prevention of early onset of cardiac problems for children up to 16 years old and to disseminate information regarding cardiac well-being.
It is the hope that through a programme of health awareness to be implemented in schools and community groups the early detection of heart conditions can be achieved so that fewer families might have to endure the sudden loss of a child.
HISTORY
On July 21, 2016, Michael died during a school organized cycling pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain despite being only 16 years old and physically fit. It is probable that he suffered from an undiagnosed heart condition and died completely unexpectedly and tragically from a suspected heart attack.
The Cura family has therefore set up the Michael Cura Foundation to provide the means of information dissemination, training and clinical examinations to detect early onset of cardiac health problems. Subsequently, it is planned to offer medical assistance where required and possible.
